~ he was SO powerful and freely shared that power to help others ~ he got angry when people foolishly focused on things that don't matter - nitpicking over details -when they wasted opportunities to have faith/ rejected the amazing revelation he was bringing them ~ he didn't run away from argumentative troublemakers - he called them out ~ he offered freedom from confusing religious rules
28-30"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Chapter 11 - I find it interesting that John the Baptist sent his disciples to Jesus to ask if he was the Messiah. John baptized Jesus and I assume heard God say That this was His son and the Holy Spirit descended like a dove... Jesus answers them and I see myself in the question John asked. It is my opinion that John was in jail and had a plan in his mind or some expectation that was not being met by Jesus. I often have moments in my life where I try to convince God that my plans need to be done my way. I think we see in scripture that Jesus can to change everything that we knew about religion and I often forget the relationship. Jesus came with the good news and he also denounces towns that He visited and they did not repent. Lord, help me to repent often, to be quick to ask for forgiveness from you and others.
Chapter 12 tells about Jesus being watched and accused repeatedly for breaking religious laws. Jesus did not fit in any of the religious boxes of the day and that drove the leaders of the "church" crazy as he sought to take control from them and give freedom to the people. Jesus did not back down but was firm in His convictions and that is something I need to strive to do.
Sabbath is something that made it into the 10 commandments and is mentioned in chapter 12 as well as throughout scripture, but I have not had a clear understanding, I want to take a tangent and focus on this for a day to see if I can gain a better understanding. What is a Sabbath and with Christ's coming what does the Sabbath mean to the new testament church. I know Jesus says he is Lord of the Sabbath but I know it is also a time for rest and reflection and that is not something I practice very often, Lord help me to see you more clearly and to better understand your word. Thank you for the encouragement of my wife and 3 wonderful kids. Help me to serve and lead them as you would...
